Why is Gen Z struggling?
Join me for my first post which will elaborately expand on the real issues harming the young Gen Z.
I am a member of the currently coming-of-age generation. Yes, Gen Z.
We are no longer the babies in this world. Many finally ready to make their mark on this world, but at the same time many oh so lost. Do not worry, being lost is okay.
Everyone that has ever started something had to begin at the bottom - limited knowledge, unknown potential, and an unpredictable future. However, Gen Z has been misled many times in all niches. The one I connect most to are the “Gurus” in the finance niche trying to make a quick buck. They provide confusing instructions to young adults and teens who are just trying to make change for themselves. This is where I hope to shed some light and unite entrepreneurial thinkers through open conversations, disseminate needed information, and spark critical thinking.
Mistrust
As mentioned above, “Gurus” have plagued the finance and entrepreneurial niches with exorbitantly priced seminars and promises of simple steps that will lead to riches. Many have blindly purchased and follow these ‘get rich quick’ ideas with no expectations - diving in head first.
While few come out the other side with success, the latter come out even more confused and down a few hundred dollars. This cycle is endless. Instead of trying to get rich quick, time should be taken to create a plan - and stay consistent.
Many great thinkers, authors, and businessmen alike talk about the power of consistency. I like to think of James Clear’s rule of 1%. The difference between growing 1% and declining 1% each day for a year is mind blowing. Check it out:
A 1% change can sound many different ways. Here are some that come to mind:
Should I spend 10 extra minutes on my passion project? Yes.
Should I dine out or cook tonight? Cook.
5 more minutes on the (exercise machine of choice)? Yes.
You do not need to pay a Guru money to make a complete life transformation. Instead, focus on incremental changes that add a few minutes of an activity to your life. On the other hand, removing bad habits in minute increments has the same effect! Small changes account for the best change with one catch - stay consistent.
Stop Watching, Start Doing
It is incredible how easy watching others succeed is. Truly paralyzing.
Why do people like to watch peers and even random people succeed instead of themselves?
Humans are groupish. Acting in a group is human nature and so is doing the bare minimum to stay in the group. This feeling is amplified when the group you are in is fully virtual (think of how the TikTok algorithm knows exactly what you like watching). It is human nature to need to be in a group of like-minded people so use it to your advantage.
You truly are the average of your surroundings. Lets compare 2 different scenarios.
Scenario 1
You have 3 friends that push each others goals, provide constructive criticism, and hold you accountable. Together you share your success stories but also learn from each others failures.
Scenario 2
You have 10 friends that constantly pick fights, lay around and smoke, and treat others with anything but respect. You know who you can play video games with at 5 am.
Which one sounds more appealing to feed your drive? When you surround yourself with success it builds you up to achieve your own. While the title of this is “Why is Gen Z struggling?”, this is being done to yourselves. I must admit, leaving the old and starting the new is hard - a process I am personally currently in. BUT, the results are truly worth everything.
So, next time you have an opportunity to network and meet high achieving individuals, do it. It is for your own good.
For Gen Z, From Gen Z
As always, thank you for reading this far and I hope you enjoy next weeks article just as much. Please contact me with any comments, questions, or concerns. Seriously.

I love how you say:
"Do not worry, being lost is okay."
Makes me think of the Phillip Phillips song Home:
"Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found
Just know you’re not alone
'Cause I’m going to make this place your home"
You are creating a fine home here, Luke,
for you and your fellow gen z souls
and maybe a few perpetual adolescent boomers, too
...as long as they don't pontificate :)
How else can the whole “group ish” thing be taken advantage of? I don’t fully get it
